MEET DR. NICOLE JONES
New Leadership Delivering Results for Our Community
Dr. Nicole J. Jones is a bold, compassionate and experienced leader, having been influenced by her family and friends, her childhood in South Los Angeles, and her track record of public service and civic engagement.
Primarily raised in a single parent household, Nicole counts her mother as her first role model. While her mother struggled at times, she always encouraged Nicole to do more; “to whom much is given, much is required” was a guiding principle in her home. In addition, Nicole counts the models of strong women – her grandmothers, aunts, family friends, and teachers – who encouraged her and demonstrated how to advocate for and support others.
Nicole grew up with her mother, family and lots of extended family friends encouraging her to pursue educational opportunities and make positive contributions, especially as she witnessed the consequences of schools, gang violence and substance abuse. These everyday experiences helped Nicole develop a commitment to serving others and to take action to "change the world" and facilitate positive change. Her mother encouraged Nicole and her brother to learn and try new things, and through these efforts she was exposed to cultural awareness, political activism and community service. She believes that this formula of access, exposure and education has been critical to her success – and these have been guiding principles for her life. For more than 20 years, Nicole has advocated, served and worked in the community, making positive improvements throughout communities in South Los Angeles and statewide. Her passion for serving others and improving communities are the connecting threads throughout her professional and civic involvement.
Currently, Nicole serves as executive vice president, chief development and innovation director at AmPac Business Capital. Previously, Nicole served in the state government, serving as a gubernatorial appointee in the California State Controller's Office and as a state commissioner for the California Board of Psychology. Nicole has worked as director of external affairs at Crystal Stairs, as associate director of corporate and foundation relations at Loyola Marymount University and as program director at The California Wellness Foundation. Additionally, she previously served as a political aide to former California Assemblymember Kevin Murray.

Working across multiple sectors, including government, foundations, higher education and civic organizations, her focus is on enhancing access to education and social services. Through her public service, professional positions and volunteerism, she has sought to amplify the voice of underserved individuals, families and communities. Nicole has fostered relationships with communities and leaders, resulting in an extensive network on the local, state and federal levels.
Nicole earned her undergraduate degree in social sciences with an emphasis on urban education from the University of California, Berkeley. Her education at UC Berkeley transformed her life, and it is where she decided that she needed to “change the world” in her professional and civic involvement. While studying at UC Berkeley, Nicole became active in campus issues, including student retention, campus diversity, and sexual assault prevention. She also studied and completed numerous courses at several California community colleges.
Nicole continued her studies, obtaining a master of public administration degree at City University of New York, Baruch College, and a doctorate in public administration at the University of LaVerne. In addition, Nicole completed the Coro Fellows Program in Public Affairs and the National Urban Fellows Program.
Nicole is a life member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and New Frontier Democratic Club, and also maintains affiliations with several civic organizations. She has served on numerous nonprofit boards, including the YWCA of San Gabriel Valley, California Alumni Association (UC Berkeley), and the Los Angeles African American Women’s Public Policy Institute. Additionally, Nicole is a member of Faithful Central Bible Church.
Nicole is a long-time resident of Willowbrook with deep family roots in this community, residing two doors from her father’s childhood home.
Nicole was appointed to the Compton Community College District Board of Trustees in March 2026 to represent Trustee Area 2. She brings a strong knowledge of Compton College, including previous serve on the Compton College board in helping to restore college accreditation in 2016. Nicole has served on the WASC Senior College and University Commission accreditation body where she has deepened her understanding higher education policy and student success strategies. In addition, Nicole has served as an adjunct professor at National University and University of La Verne.
Nicole is currently seeking election to the Compton Community College District Board of Trustees, Area 2.
